Tuning in from the Outer World

The new series of ink wash and pen drawings on paper, “Tuning in from the Outer World,”
reconnects with “Tuning Out from the Inner World” (2018), revisiting the same technique in a more intimate and concentrated format. While the earlier cycle explored an introspective dimension, this new body of work shifts its focus outward: the world becomes a field of signals, symbols, and subtle interferences to be deciphered.
The series has just begun and currently includes two completed works. Both reveal a strong
stylistic inspiration drawn from the engravings of Albrecht Dürer, reinterpreted through a
distinctly contemporary sensibility. In particular, “The Artist, Death, the Devil and Other Teachers”
establishes an explicit conceptual dialogue with “The Knight, Death and the Devil”, transforming its
Renaissance iconography into a personal meditation on the role of the artist and the symbolic
forces that shape his path. The other works arise more freely from the artist’s imagination:
visionary landscapes interwoven with esoteric messages, mystical themes, traces of psychedelia,
and fragments of lived cultural experience.
A deep passion for the European Renaissance permeates these new works by Masci, where
meticulous linework meets visionary imagination. Historical memory and contemporary tension
converge within a dense symbolic fabric, fusing devotion to craft with speculative inquiry.
