Renaissance rush
Renaissance Rush is a pair of oil paintings on cardboard created during a particularly fruitful period of my life — both artistically and personally. There was momentum in the air, a sense of expansion, and these works carry that intensity.
Each painting openly references a Renaissance masterpiece: The Ascension by Raphael and The Rebuke of Adam and Eve by Domenichino. Rather than quoting them reverently, I chose to engage with them — to reinterpret, distort, and transform their visual language with irony and technical virtuosity.
In Renaissance Rush, tradition is not frozen in admiration; it is activated. The past becomes material to be reshaped, questioned, and playfully reimagined.
These works stand at the intersection of homage and reinvention — a reminder that art history is not a museum to walk through quietly, but a living force to wrestle with and make one’s own.
